Day 9: 31 Days of Halloween Cards with Hero Arts

 Hi friends! 

When I first saw this die set for the witch's hat, I knew I had to have it. I made more witch cards at Halloween than anything else and I don't mind it at all.

 Not all witches are scary or ugly, some can be beautiful and elegant. 

I chose the background paper first from my collection and then chose the colors of the flowers. I knew I wanted a purple bow as I tend to incorporate purple with most witches for some reason. 

I cut all those pieces out with the die cutter.

 Using tweezers and stick tools i glued them all together. When using a set for the first time, I rarely stray too far from the example. I think of it as my "getting to know you" project. 

I picked a fun frame to use as the background shape. Although this can be skipped, it adds interest.I cut a frame from the patterned paper but both pieces of paper will be used so leave some space along the edge before it is cut. Then I cut another from black in a size larger.

 

They will be layered in the order shown above on to the card base. The black piece covers the hole left in the patterned piece. 

Adhere the patterned piece with the hole to the card base and trim to fit.

 Cover the hole with the black piece. 

 Adhere the patterned cutout to the black piece as shown above.

 Use foam adhesive to attach the hat and add some gems for sparkle.

I will not put a sentiment on the front, at least not yet, as I will wait to see how this card is used. It can be used for so many occasions beyond Halloween. I belong to a dancing witch group where we dance at fall events for the community. We do not practice witchcraft. Some times I need a witchy card to give to another witch or thank someone from the community for doing something nice for our group.

Spin the wheel #2 + Color Cube Card: octopus

Today I spun the spinner to prompt me on a subject and I got: octopus. I also pulled a card from the Color Cube. 

The card I pulled from the Color Cube is: 

Now, this color palette is absolutely nowhere near what I would have picked had I just used any colors that I wanted but let me show you how I made it work!

I chose to use a die set from Spellbinders. This was the Small Die of the Month for June 2022. Yes, I know it's old but I encourage you to use products you have in every project. You might not have this set but you also might have something similar. 

 I pulled a bunch of scrap papers from my collection that went along with the Color Cube. I knew that I would pick gray for the octopus. Now to assign the other colors and create a scene. 

I chose the red and yellow would be jellyfish and I would add a layer of vellum on top to give it more of a jellyfish look. 

There is one die for the 3 pieces of the jellyfish. This is nice because it's 2 less little dies to lose but it requires the user to cut using one color or type of paper. Since I just wanted the top layer of the jellyfish to be vellum and laid the die on the vellum in a way to just cut that layer and not so much of the rest. I didn't want to waste the vellum by cutting pieces I didn't want. 

I glued them with a glue that will dry clear. I'm pretty happy with the look. 

My table can get messy during a project but I clean up after each one!

I chose to use both greens from the Color Cube to make some vegetation for the scene. Here I am using reverse tweezers to handle the little pieces. Reverse tweezers stay closed when not in use which makes tasks like this real easy. It's also great for tying bows when you might need an extra finger!

I used another shade of gray paper for the background. I cut with a deckled rectangle frame. I stenciled schools of fish for the background. I shaded the edges with Frayed Burlap Distress Oxide. I added clear sequins to represent bubbles. 

I think I used the Color Cube card well. What do you think?

I used the print and cut feature on **Silhouette Studio software and cut it out with my Silhouette Cameo. I colored them using **Spectrum Noir Classique Alcohol Markers in the colors shown. I will say I have the original Spectrum Noir markers that I have had for many years and they all still work great. The pink glitter background is just pink glitter cardstock. I often won't list details on papers used because quite often I just take from my scraps before any where else.

The Stitched Scalloped Hearts Dies  -- I did find these on Amazon but the listing just screams counterfeit to me and I will never knowingly or even if I have a gut feeling support that. I only point you in the direction of Amazon if I don't suspect counterfeits in the listing. In this case I did. I strongly believe in supporting the designers and small businesses. I understand that some crafters are always looking for a bargain but Amazon is flooded with counterfeits and websites such as Temu, AliExpress, Wish, and many more are dealers of counterfeit products. Purchases from them support the thieves and you are robbing the real designers of their income and integrity of their designs and products. They are going out of business and that bargain is costing someone their dream. 

For the sentiment, I cut a banner from Riley and Company's Banners and Accents Set and used a stamp from **Hero Arts Clear Stamps with Coordinating Frame Dies Love Birds Stamp & Cut that says "You're my tweetheart" and stamped using **Tim Holtz Distress Oxide in Festive Berries .
